Register for the Advanced Inservice Training on June 28 in Boise which makes you eligible to move up to Idaho Advanced Referee.
PRIOR TO BEGINNING THE PROCESS, ENSURE YOU MEET THE REQUIREMENTS...
SOCCER EXPERIENCE: Licensed by US Soccer in 2023, 2024, AND 2025.
AGE: Minimum 17 years of age
COST: $90 annually (which you will earn back in 2-3 games) plus a $22 background check every 2 years ($150 if you have lived internationally)
SKILLS: You should model current teaching from US Soccer and effectiveness in all areas with a special emphasis on these areas: attitude, positioning, crew communication, player and technical area management, conduct on and off the field, and have no misapplications of the Laws of the Game. As an Advanced Referee, you set the example for other referees and should model this throughout the process.
STEP 5 MUST BE DONE FIRST:
APPROVAL: All regional referee candidates need approval of the SRC Executive Board to enter the process. The Board will evaluate your readiness to take this step after gaining input from our first-hand observation of you and reports from mentors and referee coaches. You can request this permission to begin the process by contacting the State Director of Instruction/Assessment.
Once you have approval, here is the process (you may do these 3 steps in any order):
ONLINE CLASS: Register and complete the Idaho Returning Referee Course located here (COMING IN JULY)
IN PERSON TRAINING: Attend and fully complete the Idaho Advanced Inservice on July 28, 2025 or a date TBA in the fall.
REFEREE COACH APPROVAL: Be observed by a licensed referee coach or mentor+ as the referee (not assistant referee) on a U16 or up match. You must have a full crew of 3 referees to count as an evaluation. Plan to visit with the referee coach for 20 minutes following the match. Your evaluation can occur before or after you take the in person course. Once you have an appropriate match assigned, request an evaluation here.
LICENSE: After you have completed 100% of the online work, attended 1 in person training session, and successfully completed your mentor evaluation, you will receive an email with your license. Your referee badge will be mailed to you within 2-3 weeks. Your license is valid for a calendar year (January-December), then you must relicense each year. We begin re-licensing in July each year. If you are a referee under 18 years of age, you will also receive a "Youth Referee" armband to wear in all your matches. This provides extra you with extra protection.
MENTORING: Thanks to a grant, we offer free mentoring on 1 match for a referee moving to a significantly new level.
NEXT STEP: Get high level training, make yourself eligible for the top games in the state and region, and get paid more by moving up to Regional Referee or consider becoming a Mentor.
