Regional or Emeritus Licensing Process
Welcome! My name is Rob and I'm here to get you upgraded to regional or re-licensed as a regional, regional emeritus, or national emeritus referee for next year. Referee licenses expire on December 31 each year, at which point you need to complete the relicensing course. Read this page first, then if you have further questions, contact me. I am also available to help you if needed.
2024 Licensing Information
WHO CAN RE-LICENSE: If you are a current regional, regional emeritus, or national emeritus OR you want to upgrade to regional referee, follow this process. The fitness test and assessment steps may take place before or after your online and advanced referee class.
COURSEWORK REQUIRED: Your course involves online work prior to attending an in-person session. First, you register and complete the advanced work in the Learning Center. It takes about 2 hours and must be complete at least 72 hours before you attend the statewide advance referee in person session, held in February.
BACKGROUND CHECK UPDATES: If your background has expired or will expire soon, complete it at this time (for those 18 and over). This requires an additional $30 fee but is valid for 2 years. If you have lived outside the country in the last 10 years, an additional international background check is required which costs $150.
FITNESS TEST: the SDI will contact potential candidates with dates.
ASSESSMENTS: you must upload the passing scores of your assessments that occurred during the 2023 calendar year (January - December). Three are required for upgrade and 2 are required for re-license. Assessments must be on adult level highly competitive matches. The SDA can approve a top division youth game (such as a state cup semi or final) to could for 1 of these assessments.
After you have paid your fee, completed all the online training, and completed your in person training, you will receive an email with your license. If you miss any step above, your license will be delayed until you complete that step. Your license is valid for a calendar year (January-December), then you must relicense each year.
